Studio Update - May

Wow, where is the year going? It’s already half way through May and spring feels like it has finally arrived and we’ve been bustling with new beginnings here in the Unseen Icons studio.

But first let's remind ourselves of the two beautiful mid-century armchairs that we completely refurbished last month. Anyone who knows me, knows that I’m a sucker for anything mid-century, and these chairs really fit the bill. We undertook a complete refurbishment including all of the woodwork and it was definitely the right decision to go the full distance and give them a new lease of life.

The fabric selection was ‘Forbidden Fruit’ by Becca Who, and although we were hoping to be able to go random with the pattern, it didn’t quite work out that way due to the large scale - so it was decided that we’d pattern match the front edge of both chairs and I think you’ll agree they look stunning. It was tricky to do, but completely worth the effort!

The past few weeks have involved a lot of prep work for upcoming cinema seat bespoke orders.  Whenever possible we try to send large batches of the metal work off to be professionally shot blasted and powder coated. It’s always a significant financial outlay for us, but it makes the production process much smoother.

We are now working with a professional woodworker for all the wood parts of our cinema seats.  Having done this part of the process in house for years, it's been a big change for us but actually means the finish has improved even more.  In hindsight perhaps it was something that could’ve been done at an earlier stage in our business, but as with everything we are constantly evolving and looking to both streamline and improve.

We have just finished some lovely bespoke cinema seats for our customers and are steadily working through the next batch.

We currently have two spaces on our order board for bespoke sets of cinema seats, if you'd like one of them to have your name on it you can purchase here.

What else have we been up to?

We've just got back from attending the Craftworks Show at Shoreditch Town Hall where we collaborated with the fabulous Duncan McKean Designs It was a great few days introducing our products to both trade and public visitors.  I will be selling all the seats I made for our stand as soon as I get a chance to list them but in the meantime if you fancy any of them just drop me an email, kerry@unseenicons.com

We have lots of new collaborations coming up, so I will be sending out a few more newsletters in the next couple of weeks to tell you all about them.
